Obituary
MAPLE BLUFF-John Scott Wright, at the age of 67, completed his earthly journey and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, peacefully surrounded by his beloved family, after a courageous battle with cancer. John entered this world on Sept. 28, 1945, born to Marilyn Wright and Jack Higgins. He grew up in south Florida where he acquired his lifelong love for the outdoors, the water, and all sports. The Lord blessed him with exceptional speed. As a prep track All-American, John was highly recruited by many colleges. He accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin and thus began his career in Madison. John was enormously proud of being a Badger and continued his strong commitment to the UW throughout his life. John graduated from the UW School of Business with a degree in Finance in 1969. While still in college John employed his entrepreneurial skills to start up numerous new businesses serving students. Upon graduation John began start-up retail stores in Madison and other Midwest college towns. Later, John embarked on a long and successful career as a real estate broker, investor and developer. His hard work, dedication and strong work ethic were rewarded with numerous successes. John felt fortunate to have earned the privilege to give back to the community and loved to give back in many ways. He gave as a sponsor, volunteer, director, donor, trustee and coach. He served on several boards at Edgewood Campus School and High School, and was a member of the University of Wisconsin Bascom Hill Society, Camp Randall Society, Mendota Gridiron Club, Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way and Gilda’s Club of Madison. He also gave his time as coach and sponsor for Edgewood Campus School and Junior High School girls’ basketball, volleyball and softball and to the East Madison Little League and the Patriots Youth Hockey. He donated generously to local causes such as the Madison Children’s Museum, Carbone Cancer Center, American Family Children’s Hospital, Women’s Health Foundation, the Overture Center and numerous others. John’s radiant smile and sparkling eyes could light up any room and will be greatly missed by those that knew him. He leaves behind his daughter, Samantha Apter and her husband Matt, their children, Henry, George and Olivia; his son, Tyler (preceded in death by their mother, Deborah). His mother, Marilyn (Bill) White; his half siblings, Nancy Panos, Martin and Steve Koblik, Janice (Larry) Parker, Michael (Mary) Higgins, Steve (Jan) Higgins, Kevin (Brita) Higgins, Nancy (Matt) Eaken. His wife Linda and her children Brian Roessler, Tyson Roessler and his wife Nicole and their children Alexiah and Leiland. John loved Badger sports, and truly treasured most, the time spent with his family and adoring grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the UW Badger Fund- John S.
