Mark Norman Schmidt

LODI-Mark Norman Schmidt, age 49, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. He was born on June 26, 1963, in Portage, the son of Norman and Evelyn (Alme) Schmidt. Mark was a 1981 graduate of Lodi High School. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean (Roth) Schmidt on October 4, 1986, in St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Martinsville. Mark worked as a heavy equipment operator to fund his real passions of family, friends, fishing and vacationing. He especially enjoyed his 2 trips to Alaska and playing cards with his friends. Mark was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lodi. Mark is survived by his wife and best friend, Bonnie, his loving son, Michael (friend Ashley); mother, Evelyn; 8 brothers and sisters, Ken (Donna), Barbara Schmidt, Pat (Rick) Steimel, Nancy Wersland, Butch (Julie), Terry (Kevin) Macaulay, Libby (Bert) Schaaf, Sharon Schmidt (friend David); his father and mother-in-law, Werner and Millie Roth; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike (Helen), Kevin (Jennifer), and Dale (Michelle) Roth, Kris (Rob) Ulfig, Jen (Mark) Niesen and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman and brother-in-law, Richard Wersland. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 521 Fair St., Lodi at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 27, 2012, with Father Francisco Higuera presiding. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 3:30 PM until 8:00 PM at the HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 157 S. Main St., Lodi and also on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. The family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., Dr. Amit Sanyal and staff at Dean Hematology and Oncology Clinic, Dr. Longo and staff at the stem cell transplant unit of UW Hospital and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital. The family would also like to thank all family and friends that helped Mark during his valiant fight with multiple myeloma. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 3:30 PM until 8:00 PM at the HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 157 S. Main St., Lodi and also on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST.
