ASHTON/ WAUNAKEE - Joyce Marion Meinholz, age 84, passed away after a dignified, courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in her home, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on Sept. 8, 1928, in Racine, the daughter of Lawrence and Blanche (Jansa) Brown. Joyce married Joseph 'Jody' Meinholz on Aug. 13, 1949, at St. Peter's Church in Ashton. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1946 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years. Joyce married Joseph and moved to the Ashton area. She was the co-owner of Meinholz Excavating and farmed for many years. Joyce was a member of St. Peter's Church in Ashton. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and was an avid and very good card player. Joyce also loved cutting the lawn on her 'trusty steed' - the riding lawn mower. She is survived by her children, Linda Carmichael of Middleton, Lois (Brian) Strassburg of Middleton, Lora (Bill) Forrest of Token Creek, Virginia (Danny) Craig of Cottage Grove, Lawrence (Karen) Meinholz of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Margaret (Mike) Kessenich of Prairie du Sac, Betty Meinholz of Mercer, Donna (Mark) Quartana of Ashton, and Andrew (Daryla) Meinholz of Cross Plains; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty R. Brown of Ashton; lifelong friend, Leonore Baker; sisters-in-law, Agnes Acker, Rose (John) Berkich, Luanne Volk-Meinholz and Karen (Bob) Meinholz-Niesen; and brother-in-law, Keith Faust. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jody in 1994; son, Eric Joseph in 1975; grandson, Joel Strassburg in 1982; great-granddaughter, Amanda Hinman; great-great-grandson, TJ Flemming; sister-in-law, Jane Faust; and brothers-in-law, Thomas Meinholz, Aloysius Meinholz and Ervin Acker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joyce at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH Ashton, 7121 County Highway K, Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Joyce’s grandchildren Emily, Mindy and Rick for their love and care of her.
