I was shocked to hear the news of the passing of Matt. We had lockers next to one another since he moved to Stoughton until we graduated.Always a great guy to strike up a good conversation with and would truly listen to what you had to say. He was very intelligent and I knew he would go far after high school with his life and career. We talked alot about him getting his pilots lic. and flying in high school. I often thought of him close to our class reunions and hoped I would get to see him & have a good time catching up with our lives. Sorry to all of you who truly lost a great man and friend. My Condolences to his family & may Matt fly forever! Jon Strandlie

I have attached a few pictures of Matt from his recent trips to Utah. I will sure miss him. We met at ERAU in 1995 and became best friends. Matt was the type of person that would go out of his way to lend a helping hand. He helped me with school projects, car maintenance, and of course we enjoyed a good party on the weekend. Matt and I ran an ERAU club called Future Professional Pilots Association. The club owned and operated a Cessna 172. Matt's treasury skills paid off big for the club in 1996 as we were able to secure funding for a new interior and an exterior paint job as well as an engine overhaul. In May of 1998, Matt, and myself flew that Cessna 172 from Daytona Beach to Plymouth, Michigan and stayed with my parents in Northville, Michigan. The trip was an absolute adventure as we dealt with thunderstorms and closed airports. Our favorite part of the trip was cruising deserted beaches of South Carolina at 100 feet off the ground and chasing wild horses in an airplane. Matt and I visited occasionally between my graduation in July of 1998 and 2003. In 2003, Matt joined me and 20 close friends and family in Las Vegas, Nevada to support me in marrying Amy. Several of us went to the Hoover Dam and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Las Vegas. In 2005, Matt flew to Salt Lake City. We rented ATV's and enjoyed riding trails in the American Fork Canyon. We covered over 70 miles of trails. Matt enjoyed the scenery, challenging trails. In 2009 Matt flew to Salt Lake City and joined my family on a camping trip at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The lake provided a weekend of good times, good food, good memories and amazing scenery. Matt was a kind, friendly, loyal, respectful, caring friend that will be sorely missed!
