Obituary
MONONA/MCFARLAND-George A. Cash, age 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, climbing the stairway to Heaven on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, after a courageous 15 month battle with cancer. He was welcomed by his twin granddaughters, parents, and many other special people. He was born on June 25, 1946, in Milton, the son of Mildred and Albert Cash. From the age of four, music was a significant part of his life. He was a professional saxophone player in numerous bands including Mendelbaum, Baby Grand, and High Steppin’. On June 29, 1973, he married Rosanne Claerbout on the shores of Lake Michigan. They were blessed with two daughters, Elizabeth (Keith) Steele, and Emily (James) Farwell. At that time he made a career change which allowed him more time with his family. He was the owner of several businesses that developed and manufactured water-based wood finishes. The things that brought joy to his life and a smile to his face included being a dad, grandpa to Max Steele, racing, music, and Badger sports. He is survived by his wife; daughters and their spouses; a grandson; brothers, David Cash and Don (Julie) Cash; nieces; nephews; and many special friends. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012. Visitation and Celebration of George’s Life will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Friday. We would like to say a special thanks to the oncology doctors and nurses and UW Hospital and Clinics! Memorials may be made to organizations of your choice or to the family. Heaven just got more fun! We will love you forever!

Dear Rosie and Girls,
I was so saddened to read about you losing George. My first thought was how his family and friends would miss that great smile, and laugh.
I know you have many great memories to cherish. I hope those will get you through the dark times. My thoughts and prayers will be with you in the coming days.

We are very sorry to hear of your loss George. I knew George many years ago when he played in our band The Nocturnes. I picked him up at his parents' house in Milton many times. He was always a GREAT musician and good guy. He came to a band reunion in Dodgeville in 2009 and we all laughed about all the great times together. We will all miss him greatly. Bless you and your family at this time of loss.

We are so saddened by George's passing . .. what a loss! We will never forget the laughs and fun we shared as original members of "The Nocturnes." George's smile is forever implanted in our memory. It was a special time in our lives . . . rockin' and rollin' across Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. Playing music was never a job nor was it work . . . we could not believe people were paying us money to do something we loved so much.

After watching the video of George's life, you can't help but realize how some things never change. His smile, talent, humor, love of life and obviously his love for his family.
A life ended all too soon. His beat will go on in each of you. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Emily, Izzy, Roseanne and family,
I am so very sorry to hear about George's passing. Although it's been quite awhile since the last time I'd seen George (or any of you), I still remember what a kind and funny guy he was, and how great he was to be around. My condolences and prayers are with you.
