Obituary

MADISON-Ellen C. Austin, age 95, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012. She was born on July, 19, 1917, in Ashland, the daughter of Joseph and Selma La Charity. She attended Beaser School and DePadua High School in Ashland. Ellen truly enjoyed her time growing up in Ashland, where she met the love of her life. She worked at Vaughn Library in Ashland for several years until she married Robert Austin in 1945. They had one daughter, Cathy, and in 1953, they made their home in Madison. Ellen enjoyed working for many years at the Department of Health and Social Services, retiring in 1980. Ellen was a charter member of St. Dennis Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Hynum; son-in-law, Les Hynum; and two grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Jed and Courtney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1992; her parents; grandchild, Chris; two sisters; and four brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, with Father Joji Reddy Allam presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. I had the pleasure of becoming a good friend of Ellen's when I lived at the Monona Lakeview Apts. She and I had many good times together including numerous walks and Friday night fish dinners at the VFW. When my mother, Ruby,would visit me from out East, I would never have to worry about leaving her when I went to work because I knew she would be sitting at the lake with Ellen when I returned. I will miss Ellen very much and my sympathies go out to her family.
