Obituary

MADISON-Dana (Schaeffer) Bruns, devoted mother and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012. She was born on Dec. 17, 1935 in Bonny Blue, Va., the daughter of J.T. and Lillian (Gibbs) Adams. Dana graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Charles, Va. with the class of 1953. Dana and her then husband, E. Bud Schaeffer, decided to call Madison their home in 1969 to settle down and raise their family. Dana worked as a secretary for various schools throughout the Madison Public School system, then retired from Madison Memorial High School after many wonderful years there. Dana was fortunate to find a second love and was united in marriage to Richard V. Bruns on April 11, 1983. Together Dana and Rich enjoyed golfing, especially at BlackHawk Country Club, hosting family gatherings at their home which was always known as the “meeting place”, and thoroughly enjoyed their condominium in Florida where they spent winters for many years. Dana was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching and was a wonderful cook, a family favorite being her “southern fried chicken”. Dana treasured her family and took great pride in being a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was truly a devoted woman who was very passionate about her family. Dana is survived by her children, Sandy Schaeffer of Columbus, Lisa (Dick) Spangler of Stoughton, Vicki (Dale) Scovill of Monona, Ginny (Randy) Holley of Middleton, and Rob (Beth) Schaeffer of Madison; grandchildren, Ashley, Paul, Bryan, Nikki, Grady, Jenni, Renee, Matt, Anthony, Jeffrey, Tyler, Taylor and Brandon; 4 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; and many nieces and nephews. Dana was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; a sister; and a brother. A memorial visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13th, 2012. Dear Schaeffer family, I was saddened to hear of your Mom's passing, but now she is at peace and in a truly wonderful place. The boys always enjoyed the times spent with Grandma Dana and Grandpa Bruns. They came to Chucky Cheese for Ryans birthday party. Now that's love! Really more like torture, but they all had fun! Please accept my sincere condolences, along with my mother's. Having just lost my husband Joe in January, I know that you are relieved to know she is at peace, but once the dust settles, you won't have a day go by without missing her. Hold her close to your heart..she will always be with you.
