Rick Murphy was one of the kindest men I have ever known. I will never forget one time when my husband, Jim and I met him at,Lake Geneva and he sat by the pool chatting it up with my sister and I. He was talking about hoping some day he found the right person to be with and I was so happy that he found Paula. My thoughts are with the entire family. Know that somewhere Rick is spinning the yard because no one could tell a story like Rick. We will miss him.

As Paula's aunt and uncle ( on her mother's side ) we had the occasion to meet and get to know Rick. Our only regret is that there were not enough ocasions, as we found him to be very a warm and friendly person, and always able to carry on the most interesting and informative conversations. His contributions to his craft speak for themselves. Our warmest and most sincere thoughts are with Paula and Rick's families.

I first heard Murph on RFM 40 years ago. His musical tastes changed my life.Many of Madison's DJs were entertaining back then, but Rick was cool, he was FM, and what a voice. I met him 25 years later and he couldn't have been more humble when I gushed about how I loved his work.A couple of years ago I had the priviledge to co-host an event with him and I was thrilled. Rick, thanks for being you...and from all the kids at More Science High and Communist Martyrs,after graduation, we will follow your advice to "Cut the soles off our shoes, sit in a tree and learn to play the flute!"

Rick and I spent ages together in the studio and on the air every Sat afternoon on WORT'sTropical Rhythms 1&2. Back then it seemed like we had always known each other, sharing the same interests and sense of humor. His heart seemed open to any and all. He will be remembered so fondly by all of those, like myself who are better for knowing him.
