Obituary
COTTAGE GROVE/MCFARLAND-Christine A. Sawyer, age 63, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012. She was born on Oct. 17, 1948, in Madison, the daughter of Lorraine Bowers Ludwig. She married Tom Sawyer on June 21, 1969, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral. Christine graduated from Edgewood College. She loved teaching, reading, watching her sons play hockey and soccer, and traveling (especially to Disney World). Christine was proud to be able to watch her two youngest granddaughters for their first couple years. She is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, Dan and Robbie (Brittany Amacher); three grandchildren, Olivia, Hailey, and McKenna; brother-in-law, Guy (Rae Ann) Sawyer; sister-in-law, Fe Lou (George) McElroy; and nieces and nephew, Kevin, Terri, and Michelle. She was preceded in death by her much loved grandfather, Al Virchow; mother; and stepfather, Dave Ludwig. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Monday. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor’s choice. A special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare, Trinity Senior Care, Meriter Hospital and Dr. Elizabeth Trowbridge and staff for all their help and support.

We were so sorry to read about Chris. We knew her mom and Dave for a very long time..and grandpa. Chris came over and spent many hours chatting with us when we lived in Madison back in the 60s. It was such fun to be together. She was such a great person. The world is better place because she was in it.
