Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE/RICHLAND CENTER-On June 8, 2012, Scott Schuerman gave over to the Lord the soul of his beloved wife, Cheryl. Cheryl was born May 7, 1950, at Richland Center to Lawrence (Mac) and Bernadine McKenzie. She attended Edgewood College, earning a business degree that she used in her first career at Kohl Foods for thirteen years. For twenty-five years up to the present, she worked as an accountant at Evco Plastics in DeForest. On December 27, 1969, she was united in marriage to Scott Schuerman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. For forty-two years, Scott and Cheryl shared a love of God, family, friends and the world around them. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Bernadine McKenzie; sons, Stephen Christopher and Kurt Alan; brother, Michael McKenzie; sister, Yvette McKenzie; aunt, Molly Democheetz; father-in-law, Lyle Schuerman; and her beloved dog, Ginger. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Scott Schuerman; children; Michael (Shannon), Brian, and Haddie; five grandchildren, brothers; William (Prudy) McKenzie, Richard (Joyce) McKenzie, Edward (Denise) McKenzie, Jerome McKenzie, Raymond (Sue) McKenzie, and Leonard McKenzie, sisters; Yvonne (Loren) Lane, Mary (Jim) Tadder, and Diane (Ron) Fogo, mother-in-law; Rosemary (Harley) Lichtenwalne, sisters-in-law; Marie (Michael) Kaesbauer,Karen (Tim) Coyle, and Sue McKenzie. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, co-workers, friends, neighbors, and her dog, Mac. Cheryl loved her gardens and never left the garden center without a truckload of new flowers and plants. She loved to host family gatherings, cook well, and have a superb glass of wine. Family and friends will miss her quiet support in times of need. Little known was her love of country western music. She fought a hard and valiant battle against cancer. Even in the midst of treatment, her concern was for those around her rather than herself. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and CNA’s involved in her treatment. Special gratitude is given to the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for easing Cheryl’s journey to her new life. A memorial fund will be established in Cheryl’s name at a later date. Funeral services will be held at ST. MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 160 W. Fourth Street, Richland Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012, as well as at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. “Go climb that mountain” gentle lady.” Love your family. I am sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the hope of seeing your loved one again by means of the resurrection (Isaiah 26:19 and John Acts 24:15)

I worked in the IT department, in the same office area as Cheryl, for many years at Evco. Just happened to find her obituary while surfing the State Journal web site. It was an honor and pleasure to work with such a kind-hearted person; like many at Evco, she brought a joy to the office. My deepest condolences to Cheryl's family. Paul

Cherry was such a wonderful person to know. Always a good thing to say about everyone and everything. Her caring was addictive when you were around her. She fought that battle with every ounce of strength that she had and without a complaint. She will be missed tremendously by all that knew her because she was such an exceptional person. Her commitment to everything she did or helped with was exceptional. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation - River Bluffs Chapter, Dubuque will miss her expertise with the job that she did, and the time she gave. I am glad the suffering for Cherry is over and she is in no more pain. I love her and will miss her immensely but I guess the Good Lord needed another angel up by his side because that is truly what she was - an angel. He now has the BEST angel at his side.
