Obituary

MADISON/LAKE TOMAHAWK- Norman Woodrow Arvold, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on February 3, 1916 in Madison to Theodore and Hilda Arvold. In 1935, Norman graduated from Madison East High School and proceeded to serve his country, state and community. Norman was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He proudly served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army 106th Division during World War II and was a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. In 1978, he retired as chief operating engineer for the State of Wisconsin. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Blooming Grove Fire Department and a member of the VFW, Loyal Order of Moose 1451, and 106th Infantry Division Association Golden Lions. Storm'n Norman was an avid arm chair coach for the Green Bay Packers, and a passionate outdoorsman who loved nature's gifts. Norman excelled in carpentry, golfing, dancing, and finding the best Friday night fish frys and enjoyed spending time at his home in Lake Tomahawk with his family and friends. He will be missed greatly by his children, Bruce (Lois), Vickie (Richard) Draeger, Craig (Theresa Jelinek), Trudy, Jeff, and Kristi Elvord; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; special friend/companion, Arlene Mack; brother in-law Dale Simmons, and many nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 44 years, Marjorie (Wahlberg); parents, Theodore and Hilda; brothers, Kenwood, Russell and Curtis; sisters, Helen Larson, Irene Halverson and Carol Lowry; sister-in-law, June Simmons; and brother-in-law, Phillip Wahlberg. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at Noon on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place and Agrace HospiceCare for the tender loving care given to our father. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at Noon on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

It is with heartfelt sadness that I learn of the passing of such a great man, one that I had the privilege of serving with during a difficult period in our history.
