Obituary

STOUGHTON-Gilbert “Gib” Schmolesky, age 87, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012, in Stoughton. He was born on May 18, 1924, in Fond du Lac, the son of Julius and Ida (Schwanke) Schmolesky. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II in the 595th Battalion of the 5th Air Force in the Pacific Theater from 1942 until 1946. Gib attended Oshkosh Teachers College and the UW-Madison where he earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Entomology. He worked as an entomologist for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) for more than 25 years. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary; four children, Susan (Glenn) Rasmussen of Champlin, Minn, John (Louise Cantwell) Schmolesky of San Antonio, Texas, Jim (Lori Fuller) Schmolesky of Stoughton, and Jean (George) Malek of Lake Zurich, Ill; four grandchildren, Erik, Eve, Katie, and Michael; four great grandchildren, Lindsay, Calvin, Natalie, and Sawyer; two siblings, Morley Schmolesky and Arlene Jerabek; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held at Gunderson Funeral Home in Stoughton. Interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park with full military honors.
