Obituary

OREGON-Norlan Lewis Hanson, age 85, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Oregon Manor in Oregon. He was born on Jan. 24, 1927, in Somers, Iowa, the oldest of nine children of Harry and Amanda Hanson. Norlan grew up on the family farm in Somers, Iowa. He graduated from Dana College in Blair, Neb. Norlan received his Master of Divinity from Trinity Seminary in Blair, Neb., in 1952. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1945 until 1946 in Japan at the end of World War II. Norlan married the former Alice L. Romer on Aug. 14, 1951. Alice and Norlan had three children, David, Steven, and Joy. The Rev. Hanson served as a Lutheran pastor for 40 years in Owatonna, Minn., Denver, Colo., Simi Valley, Calif., and San Diego, Calif. until he retired in 1992. He and Alice moved to Oregon, Wisc. in 1998, where they lived until the present time. Norlan loved his work, had a great sense of humor, and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed music, reading, and vacations with his wife and family. The Rev. Hanson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice L. Hanson; his sons, David (Char) Hanson of Oregon and Steven (Josephine) Ristau Hanson of Fitchburg; his daughter, Joy (Michele) Alesdatter of San Jose, N.M.; his grandchildren, Adrian, Phillip, Kaitlyn, and Corynn Hanson, Jessica Hanson, Julian and Alfred Smith; his brothers, Verlan (Helga) Hanson of Blair, Neb. and Gary (Beth) Hanson of Kingston, Wash.; his sisters, Judy (Gus) Gustafson of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen (Neal) Blass of Rockwell City, Iowa, and Joyce Hanson of Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Daniel and Merle; and his sister, Velma Miller. Funeral services will be held at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 408 N.
