Obituary

MADISON-Marcus James Mittelstadt, age 55, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on June 21, 1956, in Fort Ord, Calif., the son of Russell J. and Marlys L. Mittelstadt. Marc “Mid” Mittelstadt was a 1974 graduate of Monona Grove High School where he played football and basketball. Marc attended UW-Whitewater and UW-Madison where he studied economics and history and was a member of TKE fraternity. Marc enjoyed waterskiing and became an AWSA water ski judge, and Marc enjoyed snow skiing and was an instructor at Devilshead Ski Resort in Merrimac, since age 17, about 35 years. He loved to fish and hunt, mostly deer with bow and gun, and Marc enjoyed archery and bowling leagues. He was the General Manager of Mittelstadt Properties for which he was responsible for all operations of the holdings. Mostly, Marc was a professional musician and enjoyed being a founding member and drummer for the band “Axle Grease.” Marc was instrumental in Axle Grease’s success as a band that played “Maximum Retro Rock N’ Roll” and for which Marc was Executive Producer of Axle Grease Entertainment, cutting its popular CD, “Almost Acceptable.” Marc was a committed patriot and libertarian who believed in the founding principles of our Grand Republic. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to all who knew him. Marc ultimately succumbed to melanoma cancer, but rather than saying “after a long and courageous battle…..”, Marc would prefer we say that “after the final cymbal crash and song was done, the lights went down and Marc left the stage.” He is survived by his mother, Marlys L. Mittelstadt of Monona; sister, Mary K. Mittelstadt of Bloomingdale, Ill.; brother, Miles S. (Holly) Mittelstadt of Appleton; nephews, Kurt von Mittelstadt of Madison and Kraig von Mittelstadt of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell J. Mittelstadt. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 322 E. Washington Avenue, Madison, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Grateful thanks go out to all of the physicians, nurses, and staff of UW-Madison Hospitals and Clinics, Meriter Hospital, and Agrace Hospice. May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face,The rains fall soft upon your fields and, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. –Irish Blessing Cemetery: Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 322 E. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Marc. He was a great influence during my college years in Madison and will always be remembered when Axel Grease ever enters the conversation. I send my condolences to his mom, Marlys, always a gracious and wonderful woman. My heart goes out to you. Mid made a difference and I appreciate his contributions to my life and to others. My prayers are with you--Marianne
