Obituary
COTTAGE GROVE– Ella Emily Hoel, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2012. She spent her final days surrounded by many people who loved and cared for her. Ella was born on Sept. 16, 1915 in Madison, the daughter of Rudolph and Emilia (Witt) Knopf. Ella was united in marriage to Chester Hoel on Sept. 16, 1961, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale of Nashua, Iowa. They then spent their married lives in Cottage Grove and were very active in the community. She retired after working for Oscar Mayer for over 40 years and then continued her involvement as a member of the Oscarettes. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and 'boxing' with her beloved cat, Tuxedo. Ella was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since she was a child. She is survived by her brother, Gordon (Carole) Knopf; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester;brother, Herbert; sister, Audrey; and her cat, Tuxedo. Funeral Services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 322 E. Washington Ave, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, with the Rev. Ken Smith presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare. A special thank you to Kathy and the staff at Pine View Living of Windsor for providing a loving and caring environment for Ella.

We are so sorry to learn of your family's loss. Ella obviously was a special person because you both loved her so much. I know that she must have been so appreciative for all of the many things you both did to make her happy and comfortable over the past several years.
