Obituary

MADISON/GREEN BAY-Doris J. Phelan, age 84, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012, in Green Bay. She was born on Nov. 9, 1927, in DuPree, S.D., the daughter of Harold and Jessie (Miller) Ilgen. She graduated from Freeport High School in Illinois. Doris married Donald Phelan on June 18, 1949, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison. She was employed by Oscar Mayer as a lab technician for 32 years, retiring in January 1990. Doris liked to read, embroider, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Doris is survived by her two children, Donna (Richard) Anderson of Green Bay and Pat (Judith Choles) Phelan of Madison; her two grandchildren, Chad (Tara) Schumacher of DePere and Todd (Marisa) Schumacher of Green Bay; her step-granddaughter, Danielle Gillespie of Virginia; her six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Gabrielle, Grace, Claire, Connor and Aiden; and her sister, Nancy Steele of Freeport, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her sister, Alene Lewis; and her brother, Eugene “Butch” Ilgen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012, with Monsignor Michael E. Hippee presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m on Thursday, March 15, 2012, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday. Cemetery: Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m on Thursday, March 15, 2012, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012, with Monsignor Michael E. Hippee presiding.
