Obituary

LODI– Benedict L. Brewer, age 73, of Lodi, died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Maplewood Health Care Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Ben was born on Feb. 3, 1939, in Richland County Wis., to Robert and Evelyn (Hanko) Brewer. On Aug. 6, 1960, he was united in marriage with Karen Hoke in Richland Center. Ben attended Richland County Teachers College and U.W. Platteville where he received his B.S. in education and his M.S. in counseling. He had a special rapport with children and devoted his life to helping them. During his career in education he taught in elementary and middle school, was Elementary Guidance Counselor, supervised reading programs in the State of Wisconsin with the DPI, and served as an assistant district administrator. Ben loved spending time with his family and made frequent trips to the family farm in Buck Creek. His passion for flying in his youth continued throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed attending the EAA air show every year with his son, Tim. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling with his good friend, Austin. He is survived by his wife, Karen; son Tim, daughter, Rhonda (Rich) Young; his mother, Evelyn Brewer, brother, Richard (Colette) Brewer; sister, Patty (Earl) Tainter; and nieces and nephews. Ben was preceded in death by his father, Robert Brewer. Funeral services will be held at Lodi United Methodist Church, 130 Locust St., Lodi at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Monday. Burial will be at Viola Cemetery in Viola, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Maplewood for the care they gave Ben. Cemetery: Burial will be at Viola Cemetery in Viola, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012.
