Obituary
MADISON – Mabel B. Christensen, age 93, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, after a short illness surrounded by her family. She was born on March 13, 1918, the daughter of Gustav and Nina (Barker) Bork. Mabel graduated from Whitewater High School. She married Marion Christensen on Sept. 4, 1949, on her family farm in LaGrange Township. Mabel was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church since 1955. She participated in many church activities, such as XYZ, the estate sales and The Parish Shoppe. Mabel loved spending time with her family. She truly cherished her children. Mabel worked as a library aide for the Madison Public School District for more than 15 years before her retirement. She enjoyed bowling and baking. After her vision failed, she enjoyed talking books. Mabel is survived by a son, Alan of Fitchburg; a daughter, Mary (Retired Col. Robert) Stiegel of England; two grandchildren, Victoria Stiegel of San Antonio, Texas and Katherine (fiancé, Keesey Kimball) Stiegel of College Station, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion; infant son, Gary; sister, Myrtle Christensen; and brother, Kenneth Bork. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, with the Rev. John Swanson presiding. A reception will follow. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Media Fund. A special thank you to the friends and staff at Avalon Assisted Living Center, Agrace HospiceCare, St. Mary’s Hospital, and the Doctors and Nurses at Dean Clinic.
