June 27, 1979 - February 15, 2012
Obituary
FITCHBURG/MCFARLAND-Reidar Nicholas Oftedahl, beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend, left the pains of his world behind on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, due to natural causes. We who love him are lonely for our boy, but know he has found peace. Reidar was born in Amery, on June 27, 1979, the son of Mary and Gary Oftedahl. He grew up in the McFarland/Madison area. He graduated from McFarland High School in 1998. He loved music. A highlight was when he traveled to the USSR and performed in Red Square Moscow with the McFarland band. He attended the Madison Media Institute, and entertained as a radio personality with Midwest Family Broadcasting. During his radio time he was known as “Shawn Michaels.” Reidar’s last employment was with Ten Pin Bowling Alley, where he made many lifelong friends. Reidar enjoyed performing magic for family, friends, and at the Safe House in Milwaukee. He also was well-known for deep interest in Elvis Presley and professional wrestling. He befriended The Beach Boys and often traveled with them in the Midwest. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, generosity to others, and his comedic personality. He will be greatly missed by his parents, Mary and Gary Oftedahl; sister, Laura Oftedahl; grandmother, Toy Oftedahl; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Margaret Winchell; and paternal grandfather, J. Reidar Oftedahl. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Reidar and his family wish to extend gratitude to the Meriter ICU and IMC nurses and staff for their extraordinary care during his hospital stays. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Reidar’s name.

The Oftedahl Family
It will be the little things
that you will remember,about Reidar
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
Extending deepest sympathy
For you in your loss.
And hoping, too,
That comfort and peace
May come to you.
He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand
