Violet Morehouse

MADISON-Violet L. Morehouse, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012. She was born on Oct. 28, 1921, the daughter of Peter and Lydia (Tollund) Burkeland. Violet was united in marriage to Norbert “Shorty” Morehouse and they had many wonderful years together. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, especially with her roses. Violet spent annual vacations in Tomahawk with her family. She loved to dance and play cards and simply being around people. Violet was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church for many years. She retired from UW-Madison Lathrop Hall after 20 years. Violet is survived by her children, Barbara “Bobbie” Jones, Norene Bailey, Diana “Mitzi” Morehouse and JoAnn Jensen; six grandchildren, David (Vicki) Kinney, Deanna (Donald) Kinney-Smith, Douglas Kinney, Scott (Shelly) Jensen, Brinda (John) Mecham and William “B.J.” (Jennifer) Bailey; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” Morehouse, Cordelia “Corky” Burkeland, and Sister Anne Morehouse. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert “Shorty”; four brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, with Sister Anne Morehouse presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Violet’s two best friends, Nancy Gordon and Darlene “Dar” Dankert and the staff at Karmenta for the compassionate care and love they gave Violet.
