Obituary

OREGON-Carol Marie (Nelson) Severson, age 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at the Nazareth Health Center in Stoughton. Carol was born on June 15, 1935, in Oregon, the daughter of Edwin and Ethel (Hansen) Nelson. Carol graduated from Oregon High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Howard Severson on Oct. 9, 1954, at Cookville Lutheran Church. Carol was a very kind and caring person. Together, Carol and Howard farmed in the Oregon area until retirement. They also served as leaders for the Oregon Headliners 4-H Club for more than 20 years. Carol was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sarah Circle, Dane County Farm Bureau, and the Wisconsin Jersey Breeders. In 1988, they were named the Outstanding Jersey Breeder in Wisconsin, and received the Outstanding Farm Family for the Oregon FFA in 1983. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, their trips to Las Vegas and Alaska, the weekly gambling trips, playing cards, going to the Oregon Senior Center, bowling, and reading until her life changing stroke in 2009. Carol is survived by her children, Wanda (Howard) Ace and Craig (Becky) Severson, all of Oregon; grandchildren, Paula (Tim) Brandt of Rock Springs, Brian Ace, and Kelsey and Dayne Severson, all of Oregon; and great-grandchildren, Bracen, Brady, Aubrey, and Ashlyn, all of Rock Springs. Carol is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard in 2009; her parents; sister, Florice (Donald) Bryson; and a nephew, Michael Severson. A memorial service will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, with the Rev. Paul Markquart presiding. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Oregon. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the Nazareth Home for the great care and compassion they have given to Carol for more than 2 years. Wanday, Craig & families, So sorry to hear of Carol's passing. We heard via email. We are in Mexico and are sorry we cannot attend Carol's funeral. We remember her wonderful humor and matter of fact attitude toward life which more people should have. Our condolences and prayers. Sherry & John
