Alice Kobs

MADISON-Alice Marie Kobs, age 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living in Fitchburg. She was born on Feb. 6, 1924, in Stratford, one of nine children, the daughter of Ralph and Annette (Solberg) Dunbar. Alice worked for Central Cheese Company in Marshfield, where she met her husband. She married Harold Kobs in 1945. They lived in Marshfield, Monroe, and eventually settled in Madison, where they raised their two sons. In her later years, she babysat for children, and also helped with the residents of Central Wisconsin Center. Alice was a proud Norwegian, and very active in the Sons of Norway organization, visiting relatives in Norway on several occasions and enjoying a good lutefisk dinner! She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church for many years and later, became involved in Bethel Lutheran Church, volunteering in their daycare room on Sunday morning and participating in the XYZ club. Alice is survived by her sons, Gary (Geralyn) Kobs of Madison and Dale (Sherri) Kobs of Madison; and grandchildren, Jason Kobs, Jessica Kobs, and Kevin Kobs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; brothers, Harold, Arnold, Reuben, Elmer, Norman, and Vernon; and sisters, Florence, Gleora, and Ruth. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sylvan Crossings, 5784 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, WI. 53711.
