Obituary

FITCHBURG- Milton L. Millard, age 87, left us peacefully from Sylvan Crossings in Fitchburg on Monday, Dec. 5, 2011. He was born to Wilbur and Harriet Millard on July 12, 1924, in Rewey. In 1947, Milt married Katherine Bollant at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort and spent 61 wonderful years together. They lived and raised two children, Thomas and Jane, in Montfort. In 2004, Katie and Milt relocated to the All Saints Retirement Community. Milt remained at All Saints after Katie passed in 2007 with the help of his daughter, Jane and very special lady, Patricia Dahl. In Aug. 2011, he made his home at the Sylvan Crossing Nursing Facility which he called “home”. Milt served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an aircraft machine gun crewman aboard the USS General HOWZE until 1945 and was active in the VFW in Montfort. He worked for the Iowa-Grant school district for 37 years until this retirement in 1989. His favorite past time was sports, favoring the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, although he always followed all teams. Milt could recall any and all statistics of teams, players, coaches, wins and loses. All who knew him marveled at his knowledge of sports. The daily sports page always laid beside his chair so he’d be sure to never miss a game. Milt golfed, loved to play pool and was very competitive when playing cards. He was a kind, giving and gracious man and very thankful to everyone who assisted him, especially after losing Katie. He had a great sense of humor and a witty personality. Milt is survived by his children, Jane Delaney of Fitchburg and Thomas (Donna) Millard of Ohio, Ill.; five grandchildren, Daniel (Natalie) Baertschy, Megan Baertschy, Lisa (Christopher) Gadomski, Jeff (Bridgette) Millard and Jennifer Millard (fiancé Jeremy Byrne); and three great-grandchildren, Tristan and Olivia Gadomski and Noel Baertschy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie; parents, Wilbur and Harriet Millard; brothers, Glenn Millard and Loren Millard; nephew, Jeff (Charlie) Bollant; sister-in-law, Judy Bollant; and little Stephanie Shemak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, with Father Chad Droessler presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Montfort. Dear Jane and Family, We met your dear Mom and Dad when we lived at All Saints. We had many talks and laughs with them and enjoyed them very much. With sympathy, Bill and Marian Steele
