Dorothy Jean Jerred

MADISON-Dorothy Jean Jerred, age 81, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Oakwood East Care Center after a brief illness. She was born on March 5, 1930, to William and Dorothy (Gallagher) Rhinehart. Growing up near Tenney Park, Dorothy remained a lifelong Madison east-side resident, graduating from East High School in 1947. In November 1956, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Jerred, her devoted and constant companion for 50 years. Dorothy was a valued employee at Oscar Mayer in the payroll department for more than 40 years, retiring in 1991, and was very proud of her membership in the Oscarettes. Dorothy was an avid walker and part of the East Towne Walkers Group. She and Bill were longtime members of the Elks Club. They both loved to travel, and after Bill's death Dorothy traveled with her dear friend, Donna McGinley. Dorothy was a loving aunt, and along with Bill, was devoted to her nephews and nieces, Michael (Paula) Seeber of Sturgeon Bay, Jeffrey (Yael Gen) of Madison, Valla (Bill) Roth of Plymouth, Minn., Todd (Tammi Hauck) of Oconomowoc, Karen (Tom) Golden of Madison, and the late John Seeber and Joffre (Ann) Jerred, all of whom likely considered themselves Dorothy's favorite nephew or niece. In addition to her nieces and nephews, Dorothy is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marie Jerred and Helen Jerred, both of Madison; brother-in-law, Jack (MaryAnn) Jerred of Monona; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and William; sister, Ellen; and husband, Bill. Funeral services will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, with Father Roger Nilles officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, and also at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
