Obituary

BROOKLYN- Celia M. Eaton, age 86, of Brooklyn, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Meriter Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1925, on the family farm in rural Elroy, the daughter of the late Merl and Olga (Knutson) Remington. Celia graduated from Mauston High School in 1943 and soon moved to Madison, where she met her future husband while ice-skating at Tenney Park. On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Eugene W. Eaton at Plymouth Lutheran Church in Mauston. In 1954 Gene and Celia moved to their 40-acre hobby farm near Brooklyn where they enjoyed raising cattle and horses. Celia worked as a secretary at GTE and then Oregon Junior High School until her retirement in 1986. After retirement she continued her hobbies of gardening and sewing, donating many lap quilts to the VA Hospital. Celia was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Bruce) Brassington of Brooklyn and Kathy (Mark) Larson of Oregon; three grandchildren, Gena Larson, Jessica (Travis) LaSchum and Becky (Bennett) Starnes; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Bryce LaSchum; brothers, Oscar Remington and Charlie (Eileen)Remington; and sister-in-law Betty Remington. Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; and brother, Roy Remington. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the VFW Post 10272 or St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012.
