Obituary

MADISON-Larry Alberts, age 87, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Oak Park Place. He was born on July 15, 1924, in Canton, Ohio, the son of Mike and Mary Albert, who immigrated from Syria. He married Betsy Ann Fish in 1950, in Ohio. Larry served in the World War II from 1942 until 1956, with the U.S. Navy. After serving in the U.S. Navy, both Larry and Betsy went to Ohio State and later to Kent State. They had two children and moved to Wisconsin in 1961. Their third son was born in Fond du Lac in 1962. Larry retired in 1988, from Oakhill Correctional Facility in Oregon, as associate warden. His wife served as police officer for the City of Madison. Larrry was always smiling and always had a joke.....joking with his family until the very end. He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Alberts and Scott (Judy) Alberts; only grandson, Ian Alberts; niece, Miriam (David) Bicknase; great-nephew, Jacob Bicknase; also his beloved Albert nieces, nephews, and Shackelford family members; sisters, Martha Johns and Lydia (Lee) Elliott of Canton, Ohio; brother, Johnnie (Nancy) Albert of Deerfield Beach, Fla; and special friends, Andy Basinas, Gus Kressin, and Dorothy Huebner. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas E. Alberts, in September 1999; wife, Betsy Ann, in May 2005; three brothers; and six sisters. No funeral will be held, per Larry’s request. Family will have Honor Guard services at a later date. A special thank you to the staff at Oak Park Place, Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., and the friends at Oakwood East.

Your dad and uncle was more than a fellow employee in DOC, he was a real friend and a joy to be in his presence, not only on the job but socially as well.
