Obituary
Photo Belz, Rebecca “Becca” MONONA-Our beloved daughter, Rebecca “Becca” Belz, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 24, 2011. Becca was born Oct. 12, 1992 to Charles and Linda (Bogenhagen) Belz. At the age of five Becca courageously fought and won a battle with brain cancer. Due to radiation therapy Becca faced many challenges in her life, especially in school. Becca was a 2011 graduate of Monona Grove High School, and through hard work and perseverance Becca was rewarded with good grades and three scholarships to UW Stout. Unfortunately, just weeks before leaving for college, a routine brain scan detected an untreatable tumor caused by her original treatments. Becca was a brave, kind, warm and sweet girl with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to read, shop, ride horses and roller coasters, write stories, go to movies and scrapbook with her sister Emily. Becca is survived by her parents, Charlie and Linda; her loving sister, Emily; and her dog brother, Cody. She is further survived by her maternal grandmother, Helen Bogenhagen; aunts, Kathy (Ed) Nauman, Mary (Curt) Steindorf, Susan Grosnick, Nancy (Kevin) Grady, and Amy (Mike) Bero; uncles, Rocky (Terri) Belz, Dan (Debrah) Bogenhagen and Bill (Lynn Thiele) Bogenhagen; and cousins too numerous to list. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Harold Bogenhagen; and her paternal grandparents, Harvey and Providence Belz. Funeral services will be held at IMMANUAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1021 Spaight St., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monnoa Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Becca touched many lives in her short time with us and we are much better people because of her and the courage she displayed every day. A special thanks to the Italian Workmen’s club for allowing Becca to keep her scholarship, she lost so much through this last illness and this was a special reward she was allowed to keep. Special thanks to Dr. Diane Pucetti, Dr. Kris Chan and Dr. Tom Meier for giving us 14 extra years with Becca. Becca was able to fit a lot of life into the last few months thanks to the love and support of family and good friends like Amy Peterson, Mackenzie Hermes and Bruce and Donna Wallbaum. Thanks also to friends at Meriter Hospital and the Fluno Center for their support, kindness and generosity. Gunderson East Funral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Drive (608) 221-5420 www.gundersonfh.com
