Eugene K. Smith

OREGON/BROOKLYN- Eugene K. Smith, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Agrace HospiceCare Center in the presence of his daughter, Lori. He was born on July 4, 1932, to Kenneth and Mildred (Loftus) Smith. Gene graduated from Brooklyn High School. After high school, he enrolled at UW-Madison in the agriculture program. He was drafted into the Marine Corps and upon completion of his military duties he came home where he helped to run the family’s farm. After farming for years he started his own business, Smith Septic Service. Gene loved Packers and Badgers football and Milwaukee Brewers baseball. He enjoyed reading westerns and playing cards with all of his friends. Gene is survived by his children, Kenneth Smith (Jane), Cathy (Doug) Anderson and Lori (Jerry) Lynch; grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Ricky, Crystal, Creshna, Jenny, Clayton, Dylan, CeeJae, Megan and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; brother, Rupert Smith; sisters, Randi (Sonny) Macleod and Anita (Ralph) Bergeland; nephews and nieces, including his special niece Heather Wackett; and other family members. He was preceded in death by his daugther, DeAnn; father, Kenneth; and mother, Mildred. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 4, 2011. Burial will follow at Jug Prairie Cemetery in Brooklyn. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
