Obituary
CROSS PLAINS/ MONONA- Edward John Statz, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011. Ed was born, raised and died in his hometown of Cross Plains. Born Aug. 13, 1929 in Cross Plains, the son of John and Rosina (Hollfelder) Statz. Ed was a self employed carpenter in the greater Cross Plains area for many years and took pride in the many homes he built under his business name of Statz Builders. A veteran of the Korean Conflict and 60 year member of the American Legion Post 245, many of those serving as Sgt. at Arms. Former member of the Cross Plains fire department and a life long supporter of Wisconsin athletics. Eddie also enjoyed his card playing time with his friends at Wright\'s Auto, having gone out a winner in his final \"muttonhead\" card game. Ed married Donna Ray Hanson in 1955 and is survived by their children, Cheryl (Clint) Cutsforth of Ft. Atkinson, Gary (Nancy) Statz of Madison, Dale Statz of Black Earth, John Statz of Madison, and Robin (Jose) Hurtado of San Diego, Calif.; his brother Sylvester (Donna Faye) Statz of Cross Plains; sisters, Cathy (Stan) Wright of Oregon and Jeanette (Ray) Breunig of Sauk City; his grandchildren, Callie, Danny, Dylan, Marcus, Bernardo, Mateo, Emilio, Benito and Leonardo; and his two great grandchildren, Landon and Kiptyn. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Raphael (Colleta) and David \"Muxy\" Statz and several aunts and uncles. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at GUNDERSON MIDDLETON FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. Very special thanks go out to the great staff at the State Bank of Cross Plains and the Cross Plains EMS for the care and compassion they gave to Ed on his final day.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at GUNDERSON MIDDLETON FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.
