Obituary

MADISON-Sylvia Kelley, age 97, passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Meriter Hospital. She was born on June 4, 1914, the daughter of Peter and Johanna (Christenson) Hedegaard, who had come from Denmark with four children. Sylvia lived in Madison for many years. She was united in marriage to Dewey Kelley on July 19, 1948. Sylvia was employed at the Belmont Hotel and Inn on the Park. She walked every day in the Williamson Street neighborhood where she lived. Sylvia had a weekly lunch and played cards with friends at Trinity Lutheran Church across the street from her apartment. She read the Daily Word Booklet, her Bible and church bulletin from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madison where she was a member. Sylvia liked to play bingo, knit and crochet doilies. She is survived by a nephew, Adrian (Patricia) Hedegaard of Holmen; and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dewey in 1990; brothers, Arthur, Willie and Andrew; and sisters, Elsie and Rosy. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, with the Rev. Al Wahl presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m until the time of the service. The visits from Pastor Al Wahl from St. John’s Lutheran Church, relatives and friends were always very much appreciated. A special thank you to the management teams and staffs of Meadowmere and Karmenta for their respectful and loving care, and to Jake and Lila, her caregivers, for the past 15 years of friendship.
