Bernice Lucille Nawratil

MONONA-Bernice L. Nawratil passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011. She was born on Sept. 12, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to Anthony and Anna (Duran) Kretschen. Bernice married Charles O. Nawratil on Sept. 11, 1943 and the couple had two sons. Following a move to Monona in 1954, Bernice was employed as a key punch operator at Madison General (Meriter) Hospital, Wisconsin Power & Light and eventually as a tailor for Richman Brothers Clothing Stores until she retired. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed maintaining her home, traveling with long time friends, crocheting and other craft projects, as well as being an active member of the Four Lakes Yacht Club. Bernice is survived by her husband, Charlie; sons, Richard (Martha) and Donald (Victoria Kwitek); cousin, Mary Ann Duran (Steve Shovan); and long time family friend, Leann (Terry) Shimek. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Giese; step-father, Julius Geise; and in-laws, Charles and Marie Nawratil. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
