Obituary
MADISON - Leonard C. Thompson, age 88, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at home with his family at his side. He was born on July 3, 1923, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Harold and Edna Thompson. Leonard married Donna Hoffmaster on Nov. 2, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa. After moving to Brooklyn where he graduated from High School, he then served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945, serving in WWII under George Patton. Leonard worked for the city of Madison for many years retiring in 1985. He served as commander of the VFW and American Legion. Leonard also served as a past governor of the Moose Club. He enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes. He was a devoted Cubs and Bears fan. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Leonard is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Randy (Jill) Thompson, Sue (Larry) Dewane, Nancy (Tom) Rounds, Terri Eytcheson and Micky (Eileen Statz) Thompson; nine grandchildren, Tanya, Dean, Alisa, Erica, Emily, Tara, Brad, Angie and Andy; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lyle Thompson. Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Lenny; parents; and two brothers, Harlowe and Howard. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by Madison Area Veteran’s Council Firing Squad. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 until the time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Post No. 7591, American Legion No. 534 or Agrace HospiceCare. A special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare for their special care to Leonard.
