Walter G. Stiemke

ARLINGTON-Walter G. Stiemke, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2011. He was born on December 20, 1917, in the town of Leeds, the son of Gustav and Annette (Manthe) Stiemke. On April 4, 1940, Walter was united in marriage to Bernice E. Stoltenburg. She preceded him in death on August 7, 2010. Walter loved his family and farm. His passion was farming. He was a very hard-working and a wonderful husband and father. He was a big man with a huge heart that was a true inspiration to all. Walter is survived by his four children, Judy (Steve) Wells, Patricia (Terry) Rowe, Diane (Bill) Wolff and Cindy (Keith) Cottington; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Stiemke; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Ervin (Henrietta) Stiemke; two brothers-in-law, Robert and Wendell(Linda) Stoltenburg and four sisters-in-law, Shirley and Olive Stoltenburg, Margaret Hebel and Donna (Robert) Mountford. In addition to his wife, Bernice , Walter was preceded in death by a son Gustave; a brother, Edward (Arlene) Stiemke; a sister, Anna (Ed) Kusrow; four brothers-in-law, Frankie (Frances), William and David Stoltenburg and Don Hebel and two sisters-in-law, Helen (Arnold) Zellmer and Betty Stoltenburg. Funeral services will be held at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, on Hwy K in South Leeds at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 with the Reverend Scott Schwertfeger presiding. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the church and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday.
