Obituary

MADISON-Elizabeth “Betty” Ternes, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, after a short illness at Belmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Betty was born on March 21, 1931, in Dodgeville, the daughter of Matt and Margaret (Coffey) Ternes. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School in Dodgeville and Viterbo High School in LaCrosse. She was a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration for a number of years and taught grade school and high school in various Wisconsin communities. She left her religious community in 1966, and moved to Madison, where she was employed by the Veterans Hospital She is survived by her sisters, Jeanne of Madison and Sister Marcia of Meriden, Conn. She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Joseph. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Dodgeville. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. A special thank you to the Belmont Nursing Home Staff and HospiceCare, Inc. Cemetery: Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Dodgeville. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Thursday.
