Martha L Phelps

MADISON- Martha L. Phelps, age 94, passed away on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011. She was born on Jan. 19, 1917, in Tigerton, the daughter of Leopold and Anna Vollmer. She married Albert Phelps on Aug. 4, 1940. Martha worked for Ohio Medical for many years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the VFW Wisconsin Ladies Auxiliary. Martha’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved working in her garden. Martha is survived by her daughter, Elayne (Duane) Riley of Sun Prairie; sons, Rod (Joyce) Phelps of Cottage Grove, Stan (Linda) Phelps of Apple Valley, Calif., and Ken (Julie) Phelps of Sauk City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; sister, Anne; and brother, Herman. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. “Mom we love you very much. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Prairie Gardens Assisted Living in Sun Prairie for their wonderful care and assistance.” Cemetery: Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
