Obituary
MADISON-Doyle E. Dyer, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Dec. 1, 1933, in Madison, the son of Ernest and Olive (Boak) Dyer. Doyle graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1951, and entered the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1954. Along with his father, Ernest, he owned and operated gas stations in the Madison area. Doyle became a deputy sheriff, retiring in 1988, after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Professional Law Enforcement Association. Doyle was involved with local stock car racing and enjoyed following NASCAR. He is survived by his sister, Ms. Lenny Dyer of Madison; a goddaughter and niece, Lori Jean Dyer of Madison; he was an honorary grandpa to his great-niece, Miranda Lynn Dyer; and is further survived by nieces, a nephew, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four infant sisters; sisters, Delores “Dorry” Roberts and Linda A. Jensen; niece, Kristi Lynn Jensen; and brother-in-law, Eldon “Al” Blumer. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12 Noon until the time of service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family.

Doyle and I grew up together and were like brothers. We went in to the navy and boot camp together. Will miss him. So when sailors pass away and thier ship comes in and the lord and crew will sail away. Smooth sailing doyle.
