Obituary

OREGON-Charles Bernard Miller, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. He was born on June 9, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Fred H. and Vera (Maxwell) Miller. He married Lorene (Lori) Marsell on Feb. 4, 1966, at Ridge Lutheran Church in Chicago, Ill. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Europe during the Korean War and in the 640th USAF Hospital (Reserve) in Chicago for an additional eight years. They moved to the Madison area in 1983. He was an active member at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Madison and at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon since 1999. Following many years in the mortgage banking industry and retirement from the State of Wisconsin, he became involved with Ecumenical Housing, Genesis Housing, other civic organizations and served as the staff accountant for St. John’s Lutheran Church for the last ten years. Charles enjoyed his church, music, genealogy, civil war history, and especially traveling on river boat cruises with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lori; daughter, Diana (Paul) Roehr; son, Brad (Darbie) Miller; grandchildren, Tyler and Alyssa Roehr, and Ashton and Cayle Miller; brother, Ron (Mary) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood Street, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, with the Rev. Paul Markquart presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. A special thank you to the medical staffs at Group Health Cooperative and UW Hospital, HospiceCare, Inc., and his second family (Pastor Paul and the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon).
