Helen Schulenburg

SUN PRAIRIE/MONONA-Helen T. Schulenburg, age 85, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at Prairie Gardens Assisted Living. She was born on April 28, 1926, in Plain, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Ringelstetter) Alt. She was united in marriage to James Wipperfurth, who preceded her in death in 1976; Lawrence Maly, who preceded her in death in 1983; and Elmore Schulenburg. Helen was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Elmore Schulenburg; three children, Carol (Jerry) Kapral of Olathe, Kan., Diane Wipperfurth of Monona, and Wayne (Sandra) Wipperfurth of Cottage Grove; three grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) Mersberger and Laura and James Wipperfurth; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Emily and Bryce; and five siblings, Alma Frosch, Marie Kolan, Katie Breunig, Hezzie Alt, and Daniel (Lucille) Alt. She is further blessed with an extended family of five children, Jim (Mary) Schulenburg, Jean (John) Warren, Mary (Steve) Heiman, Jon (friend, Colleen) Schulenburg, and Julie (Mike) Ross; and grandchildren, Staci (Mario), Steven, Christina, William, Elizabeth, Michael, Jakob, Joshua, Justin, Shayla, and Austin. In addition to her parents and husbands, Helen was preceded in death by her three sisters, Celia Hemberger, Clara Roos, and Florence Breunig; five brothers, Carl, Herb, Leonard, Robert, and Louis Alt; and a grandchild, David Schulenburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Shore Adult Day Center, 4142 Monona Drive, Madison, WI. 53716, or HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI. 53711. A special thank you to Prairie Gardens for the wonderful love and care they provided Helen, HospiceCare Inc. for their support during Helen’s final days, and the doctors and nurses at UW Geriatrics and Group Health Cooperative for the health care she received.
