Obituary
MADISON- Kathryn J. Larson, (aka, April Rushing), age 55, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011. She was born on July 1, 1956, in Madison, the daughter of Olaf and Ione Larson. After attending East High School in Madison, Kathy moved to Milwaukee where she earned a degree from Stratton Business College. She returned to Madison and later on earned her real estate broker’s license. Kathy was very creative and wrote many beautiful poems. She also loved music and was a very skilled drummer. During the last 15 years of her life, Kathy found her real calling which was to become a healer. She became interested in alternative medicine. Kathy was mentored by Dr. Fran Ehrlich and studied at Clayton (internet) College to attain a degree as an herbalist. After the college abruptly closed in the summer of 2010, she began studying Matrix Energetics and earned a license in that field. Finding ways to help people with health matters was the driving force that gave her life purpose. Kathy was a joy in our lives and also a challenge. She was always two steps ahead of the rest of us in her thinking and that sometimes became a struggle and often a heartache. However that didn’t stop her. She loved what she was doing and kept right on working on her theories to the day she died. Kathy is survived by her mother, Ione Paulson; step-father, Don Paulson; sisters, Kristy (Mark Roeder) Larson of Madison and Ann (Ernest) Scheele of Verona; nephews, Lars Roeder of La Crosse and Trygve Roeder of Madison; step-brother, Rick (Denise) Paulson of Onalaska; step-sisters, Sandy (Tom) Bennett of Madison and Cindy (Rick) Rothwell of Madison; and her special friend, Dr. Francis Ehrlich. She was preceded in death by her father, Olaf Larson; brother, Steven Larson; and both sets of grandparents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, with the Rev. Duane Hanson of Bethel Lutheran Church presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of service on Monday. A special thanks to Dr. Ehrlich for believing in Kathy no matter what! Memorials may be made to Bethel Horizon Art Venture, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison WI 53701 or to Madison Area Music Awards, themamas.org, P.O. Box 8754, Madison WI 53708.

Dear Kristy Larson and family.
I'm so sincerely sorry to hear about Kathy's passing.
My sympathies go out to you and your family.
Although Kathy and I have lost contact over the many years that I have played guitar in several bands still, Kathy and I were great friends back in the 1970's, i.e., the music hey day of Madison Wisc. We had the pleasure of jamming and playing music together on many occasions. To say the least, I must say that Kathy was an amiable outgoing FREE spirit, a pure pleasure, and a joy to be around.
May God/dess bless her eternal Soul, fly on sister.

To Kat's family: When I moved into my apartment in 2004, Kat lived next door. She proved to be a caring and interesting neighbor. I am sorry she has passed. My condolences to you.

Kathy was a person I wish I had the opportunity to know better. We met probably 15-20 years ago, knew the same people, often "ran into" each other at neighborhood places. She always had a smile and a hug for me, and was always sincerely interested in what I was doing, and what direction my life was going. It was mutual. Kathy and I shared some similar view points and interests. Kathy had a real thirst for knowledge. I am not sure if everyone in her life realized this, as I think she often hid this from people. I hope that Kathy has found peace. I will miss her.
