Obituary
Burant, Brian John MADISON-Brian John Burant died of a heart attack while sailing on his boat in Green Bay on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011. Brian was born on Oct. 2,1951 in Milwaukee, the second son of Esther R. (Somers) and Eugene M. Burant, who preceeded Brian in death. He is survived by his wife, Bette McCaulley; his son, Eric; twin daughters, Anna and Tess -- now beginning college; mother, Esther R. Burant, age 89; sister, Constance Wilson; and brother, Christopher. Other survivors include numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews on his mother's and father's sides of the family, as well as an extended family of in-laws. In his professional life Brian worked as an accountant. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, with a business degree in 1973, he passed his C.P.A. exam on his first try in 1984. He worked for the Crepaco Company in Lake Mills before beginning a private practice in the 1990’s. He later joined Petkovsek & Moran, LLC and he became partner in 2008. He lent his financial expertise to St. Dennis Catholic Church. For his entire adult life Brian was a sailor. Beginning as a tender operator at the Milwaukee Yacht Club to his participation in the UW-Oshkosh sailing club where he learned Laser sailing, he never let a summer go by without racing sailboats. He was a longtime active member of the Lake Monona Sailing Club and he often won annual competitions as an expert c-scow sailor. He served as Commodore of the club. As a father, accountant and sailor he exhibited the qualities of a clear-thinking, calm, wholesome and dignified human being. He also loved to fish, golf and spend time at his northwoods cabin. He cared deeply for the well-being of his children and modeled for them a love of music, wide reading, and curiosity about all things. We have all been uplifted by his presence on this planet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Burant Family Education Trust, 118 Meadowlark Drive, Madison, WI. 53714.

Brian has been our CPA since I started my business in 1999. He was a strong, steady, patient rather quiet kind of man who did a great job for us. We are shocked at his death and will miss him greatly. Our prayers are with you.
