Obituary

CROSS PLAINS- Ruth Laura (Brunner) Maier, age 80, passed away on August 12, 2011. She was born June 14, 1931 to John and Priscilla (Zander) Brunner. On June 18, 1953 she married Joseph H. Maier at St. Francis Xavier parish where they were lifelong members. Ruth was proud to raise her family on the farm. After the kids were raised, Ruth worked at WinterSilks in Middleton for 8 years, and then at the State Bank of Cross Plains for 13 years. Her most treasured times were gatherings with the family and friends. She was a great cook and the family always looked forward to her home cooked meals, especially her homemade cinnamon rolls. Ruth was a member of the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) at St. Francis, and was honored recently for being a 75 year member of Catholic Knights. Ruth is survived by her children: David (Mary), Charles (Julie), Andy (Linn Zander), Eugene (Julie), Norbert, Betty (Marcel) Nonn, and Joseph (Dawn); 16 grandchildren, Laura (Andy) Meicher, Linda (Greg Steffes) Maier, Randy Maier, Jeremy (Stacy) Argue, Tyson Argue, Mitchell (Ashley Dedie) Argue, Ashley Maier, Ryan (Lisa) Maier, Amber (Seth) Vollrath, Alison Maier, Christie Maier, Kyle Maier, Sara Nonn, Kelsey Nonn, Jacob Nonn, Levi Maier; 3 Great Grandchildren: Sawyer Vollrath, Clayton Meicher and Kaiden Argue. She is survived by her sisters, Sr. J. Dolores, Sr. Virginia, and Sr. Mary Therese, her brothers Henry (Beatrice) Brunner, and Norbert (Marian) Brunner, in laws Bertha Spahn, Mary Barman, Sr. Lenora Maier, Eleanor Maier. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by Margaret Acker, John & June Brunner, Susan & Alois Schrenk, Herman & RoseAnn Maier, Melvin Spahn, Francis & Richard Dyer & Joseph Barman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St, Cross Plains, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 with Father Thomas Kelley presiding. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and also on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis Endowment Fund or to the American Cancer Society. We would like to express our appreciation to Sr. John Rose and Fr. Thomas Kelley, as well as to the staff at UW Hospital for their tender care of mom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis Endowment Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
