Obituary
MADISON- Elizabeth “Betsy” Deneen, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, after recently being diagnosed with cancer. She was born on Jan. 16, 1943 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lawrence and Mildred (Dolphin) Zimmer. After her mother Mildred died, Lawrence married Myrl Dolphin (Mildred’s sister) and together Lawrence and Myrl raised the children. Elizabeth married James Deneen on Oct. 4, 1969. She worked for the State of Wisconsin for 36 years, retiring in 1998. Elizabeth was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Model A Restorers Club, and the Red Hat Society. She loved spending time in her flower gardens and being with her family. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jim; mother-in-law, Berniece Deneen; sisters, Jeanette (John) Sherman, and Norma (John) Ward; brother, Francis (Lillian) Zimmer; sisters-in-law, Janice Deneen, and Sandra Gillis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her second mother, Myrl Zimmer, and her faithful canine companion, Scooter, who received all her attention during her retirement. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Visitation will be at the Gunderson Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, with a scripture service beginning at 7 p.m., and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church or HospiceCare Inc.
