Obituary
MADISON- Michael J. Burke, age 67, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2011, at his home. He was born on November 16, 1943, in Madison, the son of James K. and Eileen (Erickson) Burke. Mike graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1962. He married Judith A. Walker on November 13, 1965 at Lake Edge Lutheran Church in Madison. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 44th General Hospital, for six years. Mike retired from CUNA and Affiliates as the Print Shop Production Supervisor. He had also previously worked for Auto Glass Specialists and at a warehouse at Truax Field. Mike enjoyed playing golf at an early age and played competitively in high school. He was involved in many golf leagues throughout his life and enjoyed golfing at different courses around the state and in California when visiting his family there. When his boys were young, there were many, many fishing trips on the Madison lakes and up north. From early on he enjoyed hunting with his friends and as his boys became older, hunting with them, and bringing home many deer, pheasants, ducks and squirrels. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage and fixing anything that broke. Mike was always a proud father and adored his grandchildren, watching AJ and Brett grow, play sports, and talking to them on the phone and Kelley\'s achievements in school, band and golf. He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Mike (Tara) and their daughter, Kelley, of Fitchburg; Bob (Debby) and their sons, AJ and Brett of La Quinta, Calif.; brother, Dan (Marge); sister, Karen (Ron) Reineck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lynn Clements, Bob (Sally) Walker and Maryellen (George) Schemel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and his Aunt Dorothy. Mike is also survived by his many friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Andrew Lowe. The family would like to thank Doctors George, Keevil, Hegeman, Kao, Johnson, Turnipseed, and Runo; PA/NPs Megan Berry, Maureen Wild Gordon and Maureen Wakeen; RNs Ann, Kara, and Kim and the many, many nurses and aides Mike has had over the years at UW Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m until 8 p.m on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, or Trinity Lutheran Church.
