Obituary

MADISON-Dorothy Fiegel, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Skaalen Home, in Stoughton. Dorothy (or Dotty, as she was known to her family and friends) was the eleventh of twelve children born to Mary and Henry Besonen, who emigrated from Finland in 1887. She was born on March 1, 1926, in Trout Creek, Mich. Dotty attended Trout Creek High School, creating friendships that lasted a lifetime. She met Bob shortly after the war ended, at the Dreamland Dance Hall in Milwaukee. The first three children followed quickly, then a short time at Dunkin Donuts, a long-time at WPS, and then three more children. Living in Wisconsin and Ohio, Dotty moved her husband and family many times and quickly became adept at meeting people (and of course, packing). Always quick to make friends, Dotty accrued many of them over the years, as was reflected in her annual Christmas card display. Due to her husband’s close association with building, Dotty could wield a hammer and nail with the best of them. Returning to Michigan for high school reunions was one of her greatest joys. As well, she loved to bowl, play cards, and last but not least, she loved the nickel slots. Trips with Bob to Vegas and going to Ho-Chunk were top on her list of fun. She leaves behind family and friends who will truly miss her smiling face. Dotty is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Fiegel; her six children, Michael (Jeannie) Fiegel of Madison, Daniel Fiegel of Madison, Liz (Debbie) La Rue of Denver, Tim (Lisa) Fiegel of Des Moine, Wash., Patrick Fiegel of Madison, and Mary (Jeff) Hauser of Madison; sister, Ruth Johnson of Oxford; seven grandchildren ;five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
