Rita Marie Plummer

OREGON-Rita H. Plummer, age 87, of Oregon, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at home. She was born on June 17, 1924, in Sparta, the daughter of Lambert and Agnes Hansen. She married John W. "Bill" Plummer on Nov. 29, 1952, in Sparta. She graduated from Sparta High School and Mount Mary College (Milwaukee). Rita served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and worked as a professional Girl Scout before starting a family and moving to Oregon. Rita enjoyed volunteering her time for different organizations. She was a leader of the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, a village trustee in Oregon, a library board member, and was involved with Oregon Friends of the Library and Dane County Commission on Aging. Rita was also very active at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon and enjoyed daily Mass. She played bridge with many clubs, including a local bridge club in Oregon for more than 50 years. Rita is survived by her husband; sons, John H. (Mary Kane) Plummer of Whitefish Bay and Charles (Karla Mattson) Plummer of Oregon; daughters, Mayo (David) Ewanowski of Madison and Monica (Peter Kovacevich) Plummer of Des Moines, Iowa; grandsons, Michael and John Ewanowski; brother, Charles (Mary Nell) Hansen of Goldsboro, N.C.; and sister, Clare Zach of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lambert and Agnes Hansen; and sisters, Theresa Rose and Miriam Runde. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main Street, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Burial will be at Saint Marys Cemetery in Oregon. Visitation will be held at the GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2011, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday.
