Obituary

WAUNAKEE – Vivian A. Dickens died peacefully on July 24 at the age of 98. Born April 15, 1913 in Cottage Grove, WI, Vivian was the second of four daughters born to Flossie V. (Neefe) and Frank W. Gilbert. She was a graduate of Portage High School. Vivian was a longtime member of Lakeview Moravian Community Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was active in the Ladies Fellowship. She was also a proud life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Vivian was most recently a resident at the Cannery Row Senior Apartments. Vivian married Dell L. Dickens Jr. on May 1, 1953. Vivian will be deeply missed by her friends and family, including daughters, Nancee (Gene) Cnare and Janet (Ray) Pedersen; son, Dell (Kay) Dickens III; 11 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Barbara, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Dell, her parents, and two sisters. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 29 at 11 am at Lakeview Moravian Community Church, 3565 Tulane Ave., Madison. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Vivian to the Commonweal Theatre Company, P.O. Box 15, Lanesboro, MN 55949. I was fortunate enough to get to visit Vivian a few times a year while delivering meals on wheels in Waunakee. She was always so sweet & so thankful. I enjoyed our brief chats & was sad to hear of her passing. I'll never forget how she was always perfectly put together.. clothes, make up, hair... she always made me smile.
