Harry Axel Strand

MCFARLAND/MADISON- Harry A. Snookie Strand, age 81, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Madison. He was born on Jan. 17, 1930, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Kirby) Strand. Harry married Elfrieda Gunderson on Jan. 12, 1952. He worked for Gardner Bakery for 37 years, retiring in 1992. Harry enjoyed casino trips and traveling, especially to Branson, Mo. He enjoyed watching the birds around his bird feeders, doing puzzles and was an avid Packers fan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elfrieda; daughters, Linda (Gary) Bethel of Madison and Sandy (Terry) Allsage of Endeavor; son, Randy Strand of Monona; seven grandchildren, Valerie Link, Coy (Jenny) Bethel, Lucas Allsage, Crystal (Rob) Koch, Jared Allsage, Connor Allsage and Ashley Strand; great-granddaughter, Bronte Bethel; two sisters, Alice Peterson and Mary (LaVerne) Hack; four sisters-in-law, Lois (Dave) Ophime, Lenore Schulz, Lucille Siebert and Farol Lunda; and brother-in-law, Wayne (Gert) Gunderson. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris, Ruby and Pearl; brothers, Art and Wayne; and brother-in-law, Riley. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5 p.m., on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, with military rites being conducted. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
