Mr. Carl Francis Ohnstad

MONONA- Francis Ohnstad, age 82, of Monona, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on Dec. 27, 1928, at Dodgeville Memorial Hospital in Iowa County, Wisconsin, the son of Carl Ohnstad and Mary (McTier) Ohnstad. He was a graduate of Edgewood High School, class of 1947. Francis served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 and served in the reserves from 1952 until 1957. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Francis worked for Oscar Mayer for many years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and was known for fish frys. Francis had a great sense of humor and was full of wit until the end. Francis is survived by three nieces, Angie (James) Spahr, Kirsten (John) Harris, Dawn Ivan (Ted McCutchin) and niece-in-law Linda Britton; seven great-nephews, Craig (Tricia) Britton, Aaron Spahr, Josh (Julie) Bollinger, Wesley Bollinger, Adam Harris, Lexie Harris and Case McCutchin; and great-great-nephew, Ernest Bollinger, and great-great-niece Shane Jones- Caraway; and several cousins, other relatives and friends. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Lou Ivan; infant sister Elizabeth Ohnstad; brother-in-law, Sidney Ivan; two nephews, Michael Britton and Douglas Ivan. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon on Saturday, June 25, 2011, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m until the time of the service on Saturday. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Marys Hospital and HospiceCare Inc. for their compassionate care. "Dearest uncle, we love you and we will miss you."
