Obituary
MADISON-Edwin K. Duckwitz, age 83, passed away peacefully at Attic Angel Place on Saturday, May 14, 2011, where he courageously fought a reoccurrence of lymphoma cancer. "Uncle Ed", as he was fondly called by family and friends, was born on November 7, 1927 to Albert and Hazel (Callahan) Duckwitz . He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William. He attended West High School and Madison Business College and served in the United States Army until his discharge on April 15, 1947. Ed is survived by his wife, Mary (Stucki), his sons Steve (Jane) and Scott (Susan Patterson);two granddaughters, Jillian and Stefanie; two brothers, Albert (Alyce) and John (Ronna) and many nieces and nephews. Ed and his three brothers owned and operated Southern Wisconsin Produce, Inc. in Madison for many years. The business was started by their father in 1918. During Ed and Mary's 48 years of marriage they enjoyed many memorable trips including Europe, Africa, the Amazon, the Mediterranean, and Churchill, Manitoba. They especially enjoyed nature and wildlife. They also spent over 40 years at their summer cabin on Lake of the Woods, Canada (named Moon River) with family and friends. After purchasing a motor home they traveled throughout the United States and visited all but four states on these journeys. Ed was an active member of the Middleton Senior Center and for 11 years volunteered as a tax aide, RSVP driver, newsletter assembler and especially enjoyed playing pinochle and singing with the "sing-a-long group" who became good friends. A celebration of Ed\'s life will be held at WEST MIDDLETON LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3763 Pioneer Road, Verona, WI 53593 (corner of Mineral Point Road and Pioneer Road) at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2011 with the Pastor David Brandfass presiding. Burial will be in Middleton Junction Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Special thanks to Dr. Yamil Arbaje, Ed's Oncologist, who was more than a doctor, but a friend. Thanks also to the doctors, nurses and aides who took such good care of Ed at Dean Clinic Oncology, St. Mary's Hospital and Attic Angel Place.
