MiddletonVernon Walter Eid, age 82, of Middleton passed away unexpectedly from heart failure on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Waunakee Manor. Vernon was born February 25, 1929 in Whitehall to Albert and Emma Eid. He lived on a family farm in Pigeon Falls, WI. Following graduation from Whitehall High School, he graduated from Luther College in BS Education and later earned a MS Education at UW-Madison. Vernon was a veteran of the Korean War serving state side in intelligence. He met his dear wife, Muriel Jane Smith, in Germany teaching on an Army base in 1960. They were united in marriage in Madison in 1962. Vernon taught elementary/middle school for over 30 years. He traveled to 35+ countries. He loved debating politics, dramatics, family vacations, traveling, sailing, and most recently, constructing paper planes with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Muriel (Smith) Eid of Middleton, and three children: Karen (Ian) Rodricks of Woodbury, MN; Erik (Lisa) Eid of Middleton, WI; Kristin (Cory) Olson of Wauwatosa, WI; five grandchildren, Laura, Emily, William, Evan and Andrew. He is further survived by two sisters; Janice Klebig, and Harriet (Gordon) Hong both of Osseo, WI; and three sisters-in-law; Florence Eid of Blair, Helen Eid of Osseo, and Phyllis Smith of Greenville, SC, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; George Eid, Gordon Eid, and two brothers-in-law; Bryon Klebig and Kenneth Smith. Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2011, with Rev. Heather Lampert presiding. There will be a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church on Monday. There will be a second service at the EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 13083 Main St., Pigeon Falls, WI, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, with Rev. Dale Moe presiding. Burial will be the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls following the service on Tuesday. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, Madison, WI Office, South Towne Office Park, Building 4, 6400 Gisholt Drive, Suite 213, Monona, WI 53713; Midwest Affiliate, American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674-0001; or the Middleton Outreach Ministry, 7432 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, WI 53562. Mr Eid was a favorite teacher of mine at Hawthorne Elementary back in the mid 70's. I am sorry to learn of his passing, and want to send my condolences to his family and let them know the impact he had on my life.
